If your opponent is driving the ball really hard at you I’m going to show you the proper way to defend yourself we want to have our paddle up right instead of sideways and as the ball’s approaching us we want to extend with our arm and then snap our wrist so like this as opposed to this that wrist snap does two things it.
Adds power but more importantly it keeps the ball down to their feet so they can’t drive the next one this is the right way this is the wrong way that I always see people do if your opponents are back always keep them back no free rides to the kitchen.
I feel like when I try this it doesn’t get it down at their feet it gets it down at around the kitchen line allowing my opponent to run in and do whatever they want
I admittedly have my paddle horizontally, going to change that now. Great tip Tanner!
I find it extra tough with higher level players to hit to their feet, they just back up and drive again. Plus their top spin makes my punches float a bit high to make their next hit easier. And they're so consistent that they keep driving and it repeats
Not to be too nit picky but your “right way example” the paddle was pretty much horizontal. I think the paddle position is dependent on the height of the ball as it approaches and the player’s ability to position themselves to counter it with a backhand or forehand. Personally I will try very hard to make a roll volley counter strike out of any drive coming in a little high but if it’s traveling very low over the net cord and dropping fast due to top spin then I’ll just go for a reset attempting to keep it as deep as possible.
