Tennis is played on a large court. Pickleball is played on 1/2 the size of a tennis court. A pickleball is a hard plastic whiffle type ball. Between 26 and 40 holes. This is an indoor or hybrid ball. This is an outdoor ball. The tennis ball is fuzzy The height of the net in tennis is 36”.

Oh look, this one is a little bit low In pickleball, the edge of the net is 36” over the side line And 34” in the center. Perfect In tennis, we have a racket In pickleball, we have a paddle In tennis we use an overhand serve Nice shot! In pickleball, it’s an underhand serve.

The three components of the serve: The contact point must be beneath your waist or navel The swing direction is an upward motion And the highest part of the paddle must be beneath your wrist Another type of serve is known as the drop serve The ball can bounce on the court and the swing direction can be anything you want: high to low, low to high or side to side. You get one opportunity to get your serve into play in the cross court court on the other side of the net.

In tennis you get two chances You can use the forehand or the backhand side of the paddle when you are hitting a serve In both tennis and pickleball, your foot must be behind the line as you serve The purpose of the serve is to begin the point or the game After the serve is in play, the ball must bounce a second time Known as the 2 bounce rule. There’s one, there’s two. Now anybody can hit a volley in the air.

Nice rally, good, quick exchanges Nice smash, the ball just went wide The front of the court, known as the Non Volley Zone and commonly called the Kitchen is off limits as you hit a volley or after you hit a volley. Oops! In tennis, we take that long backswing In pickleball, we barely take one at all While there are many differences in the two games both are a lot of fun!.

Right now, Pickleball is becoming very popular in the USA The hey day of the tennis boom was in the 1970’s but remains a sport of a lifetime Now our court days are being extended with pickleball.
