Hi I'm Danae and I'm obsessed with pickleball but apparently so is America as the country's fastest growing sport now having celebrities in events like major league pickleball hitting the scene this sport is without a doubt making a wave in my last poll I found that only 25 percent of players actually have access to high level coaching which.

Leaves the majority of us about 70 percent having to learn new skills from either YouTube or players in our local communities so I'm on a mission to bring you some of the best high level players touring Pros or local Legends and having them teach you their favorite pickleball tips skills and drills that will help you advance to the next level so make.

Sure you guys hit like And subscribe so you can follow along my journey and without further Ado let's get into it today I'm introducing you to one of my favorite pickleball friends BK he has an extensive racket sport background from tennis and badminton and honestly has a lot of knowledge on the technical aspects of how to hit shots in the game.

So I know you guys are going to learn a ton what's up guys it's Danae with all things pickleball coming at you today with my series learning from the locals where I introduce to you high-level local players and they give you tips to advance your game today I'm here with BK who is literally the best backhand slice.

Return yeah you flatter me uh no it really is it's the best backhand slice return I've ever seen so he's going to teach you the shot give you a couple tips and maybe we'll get some cool slow-mo of you yeah yeah we'll try so here you'll see BK on that Far Side he's about to slice return it and I want you to watch the action on this ball it'll.

Bounce and then pull way to the right that is this slice return that we're going to be learning today she's here oh uh all right y'all we're gonna learn a backhand slice today um so the first thing you want to do is make sure you have the proper grip I personally prefer the Continental for my.

Backhand slice my volleys and my overheads most tennis players do it's the easiest group to use for the backhand slice so to find a continental grip if you haven't done so before if you look at your paddle from the bottom you'll see that it's a hexagon shape or an octagon sometimes but you're gonna find that second Groove and you're going.

To use that second Groove as a marker to place the bottom of your little finger so the bottom of your little finger and the top of your index finger are going to be on that second Groove where you're going to place your hand to hit a backhand slice so with the Continental grip we're going to go into our backswing for the.

Backhand your backswing for a slice always wants to start up high and come down so the idea behind the slice is to go from high to low the exact opposite of a topspin where you're going low to high to add that backspin on the ball you want to go high to low into the ball and follow through with it the reason you want to do that is you.

Have an open face on your backhand slice and if you do go from low to high all you're doing is lifting the ball up what you want to do is have the ball go in a straight line out and to do that you're going to just come high to low with an open face so you're going to add the back backspin with that and then the ball is going to go right down the line.

So with the open face you want to make sure that you're contacting the ball on the back so if Barrett could pass me a ball right here we're gonna see that when we hit a backhand slice we're gonna try and hit the ball right here at the bottom of our paddle so that it can roll up with the backspin you never want to go under the ball because if you go.

Under the ball again it's going to pop right up so the idea is you're going to come high to low to the back of the ball and that's going to give you that nice backspin that you see on a backhand slice so just a demo real quick you're going to go high to low with a nice backswing again high to low through the ball you're going to spin it.

Right off the bottom of the paddle now next thing you want to do is you want to focus on your follow through when you're following through on a backspin shot or a backhand slice you want to make sure that your wrist stays locked all the way through so your wrist on a backhand slice is going to stay locked all the way through what happens.

In most backhand drives or topspin shot is you're going to come in and then you're going to open that wrist but on a backhand slice you're going to make sure that the wrist stays locked in position and your follow through goes in a straight line so that wrist will always be on the right side of the paddle if you are a right-handed player.

So right here I have my paddle and my wrist on the right side and that's going to stay the same way throughout my backswing and my follow through so right here you're going to go through the ball and keep that wrist locked in on the right side of the paddle those are the biggest things you want to make sure you do on your backhand slice and right.

After that is when you go through the ball you can finish with a nice little u-swing to get that extra little spin at the end of your shot so high to low through the ball lock your wrist and get a nice little lift on it right at the end so we're going to hit a couple right here with Barrett feeding me just so you can see a little differences in how you.

Hit the hit the backhand slice I wanted to show you guys a couple of these in slow motion just so you can see that high to low movement hitting through that ball in that extra U swing at the very top again high to low hitting through the ball in that extra u-swing at the top all right you guys thanks so much for.
