Foreign box introduces the all-new cx-14 ultimate power with SST core all new Power Band technology delivering controlled effortless power all technology every shot so the players that I like on tour is a Dylan Fraser Calvin Dawson uh Thomas Wilson.

And then some players are the slack on tour and I'm gonna go with uh Colin John's Ben Johns and um Hannah Johns hey all the John oh John yeah and that was going to keep calling with the Johnsons too to have Hunter Hunter.

Johnson Jason JW Johnson uh Georgia Johnson although anyone with Johnson their name the advice that I would give somebody that wants to go pro is to not do it no I'm just kidding I would probably tell them to you know watch their diet on and off the court I would tell them to practice and play as much as possible.

And I think if you want to go pro you kind of have to be obsessed with it as all of us are and try your hardest every time you go to the gym or you play some pickleball or you know don't eat that Fried Chicken you grill one my biggest strength of the gor is uh my ability to deal with women and my greatest strength on the court is.

Probably my foreign flick my worst what was the question okay we okay my my biggest weakness on the court is my consistency I am probably not the most consistent player on tour unfortunately.

And my biggest weakness of the board would be probably disciplined just you know not working out every day or not practicing my hardest every day for you know eating enough Fried Chicken well my favorite artist would be future and uh my favorite song My Waka song would be Pub and zooties.

So she's calling me Daddy I see myself playing fickle for a long time I personally really enjoyed I love uh I love the atmosphere I love the sport I love practicing and getting better every day so I'm hoping you know until I'm at least like 45 that's my guess because Matt ride is 40 something is still very good at it.

The island tournament day usually wake up um yeah I probably has stuff prepared for us for breakfast and then we get as quick as we can we go to the courts to try and steal some of the practice course those are hard to get and then uh hype each other up uh not tournament day if it's a work day.

Um I'm working so we're for Nike so uh usually just doing that all day and then trying to get some good food in if it's a weekend we love to play disc golf I hang out with the family one of my role models I like to see my high school coach Kevin Hedberg uh he really taught me strategy of tennis and it rolls right over to pickleball so uh every day I.

Play Pickleball I think of him and and some of the things he taught me well I was pretty hurt back when I was 25 and I kept trying to struggle through tennis and then chicken and pickle popped up in Kansas City and I found out what pickleball was and we played it loved it realized I could have all the cool parts of tennis without the pain and I fell in.

Love with it and all the people here the Indiana we met at chicken and pickled so that they said this girl's really good you're gonna have to play with her and I met her we played and she said you want to go play pro okay so we played Pro and we hit it off one thing that's very very important.

Here is don't choose the wrong ball be patient if that means you're gonna have to do this 30 40 50 100 times do the same thing until you get the right ball you have to stay mentally focused in the situation okay worst thing you can do is try to pull the trigger and attack from a ball that's below the net level around your ankles now what's going to happen.

Is you're gonna have to hit up if you play cross court again your opponent's gonna slam it right back down at you because she's receiving a high ball or you're putting that you take the net you bring the net into play on this and you're going to hit the ball in the net in this case I got two impatient I picked the wrong ball to attack I go out.

Of maybe maybe you got tired and you just wanted to get out of the situation you're wanting to force the issue and win the point again patience if you take the wrong ball I hit that ball so low below the net okay and I'm missing to the net I hacked it up on the ball if I put a certain amount of pace on it it's going.

To fly out or even clip the net my only nickname I don't want to call myself out I don't think I made this up but I did have some influence and and creating this nickname is Miser King I wear visor on tour um some people call me the king so visor King goes goes with it you know we think so many guys on tour in general have.

Great locks of hair and they hide it by just putting on these big hats you know Shady Billy has great hair he has a headband covers a lot Tyson amazing hair but has that big hat on it's hard to see his mullet I want to let the world see what I have to offer when it comes to my hair and I take a lot of inspiration from Andy Roddick when he won the US.

Open in 2003 his lone major he was wearing a visor he then stopped wearing it and he didn't ever win a major again so I think both athletically and style wise um it's important for me to wrap the visor what's surprising about pickleball I think just how fun it is for every type of person like I obviously love planning I love to.

Compete and then I'll go watch like my my birth mom or my grandma's play that their local wrecked games and they're just having a blast it's not like having a blast like oh they're on the beach reading a book like they are locked in trying to beat their friend Amy who's a three five and it's nine nine they're tight on served they're asking me for.

Help and everyone can get super into it in a way that is is harder to get into other sports so he bought me that people might not know um I I grew up with two dads I have paid dads and back when I was a kid my parents couldn't get married illegally so I got really into Politics As a result I turned Pro last year uh in 2022.

After a pretty good singles run at the Florida open in March thank you guys there's two tips that I'm going to give any beginners that have an issue or a hard time hitting a backhand number one making sure that contact point is way out in front of their bodies.

When they hit the ball and number two is making sure that they're staying down through the bus when I hit it I'm not lifting with my legs I'm staying down in my knees through the ball you'll notice my position here if I hold it thank you if I hold it I'm way out in front here with my contact point and I'm.

Down make sure my shoulders are sideways way out in front and staying low through the ball whether they play Pickleball um I just think it's one of the most entertaining and farm Sports to play I just have fun the whole time even when I'm practicing and drilling this fun and playing as well tournaments just the.

Competition that really a friendly environment uh who are my partners and what do I practice I usually practice at Naples Florida we have a bunch of pro players there we have a Simoni we have donatellis we have a Catherine um Brandon long so it's kind of like we mix.

It up and it's pretty nice to have that many Pros in the area what was hard and what was easy to pick up in pickleball was probably the hardest at the beginning the soft game so the dinks and uh kind of like getting used to the footwork and that you need for that and then the easy part was probably the ground strokes uh that was kind of like.

Pretty fast so since I came from tennis and that pick up really really easy the best speed of advisor is saved uh probably be patient but when you have to pull the trigger you have to pull the trigger at the beginning I thought that I was gonna grind everyone out and it's not how it works and bigger well you have to take your chances and an attack.

When you have to attack where are you more of a grinder and tenant I was uh usually in tennis of the grinder yeah I will melt people down and then when I have the chance maybe but probably more defensive player so that switching that mindset was uh was hard for you oh yes probably but the game is such a different sports that.

I don't feel like the mindsets also didn't need to be so different that really I wouldn't say that I brought anything from the mental board announce talk talk talk talk announce talk one of the biggest mistakes that I see people doing on a ground stroke or a drive is they think that taking a big.

Backswing is going to give them a lot more power this is a myth not true at all the bigger backs when you take what it does is it it makes it forces your contact point to be late or behind you which results in your elbow coming forward like this to try to over correct the ball to go over the net what this does is it makes your elbow do all the.

Work so if you're starting to feel tennis elbow or golfer's elbow any of those any elbow injuries that comes from hitting the ball behind you so we're gonna try to avoid that go for with a small backswing so my from my ready position my contact point my backswing is really if I just turn my body that's all the backswing I need so it's a short.

Back swing that elbow is still in front of my body maybe one inch behind is all from there step into that ball and make sure I'm hitting the contact point out in front so the big back swing prevents that contact that point from being out in front I think the sport of pickleball is for people who like the social aspect of.

Sports you're so close to the other person and it's definitely more intimate than a lot of other racquet Sports and it's for a wider audience than something like tennis or basketball because it's honestly not that hard to get started so I think since it's so easy to really kind of jump in and like the barrier to entry so low I think it's for like a.

Wide variety of people I don't really have like a signature shot but I do have a signature thing that I do which is I split step like 10 times in between every shot it's mostly because I drink so much coffee and I just get so excited when I'm out there especially because I'm playing doubles with Tyson McGuffin and he just gets me so hyped when I'm.

Around him you know that mullet the teeth the um you know everything a lot of honestly the t-up shirt yeah veneers or whatever they are hahaha it's just he just gets me so hyped up just look at the guy he's like a physical representation of excitement so yeah I take a lot of split steps and um.

That's that's what I do if that answers your question I don't know if it even did my most memorable win is probably when I won the major league pickleball in Newport Beach last year I was on a team with my girlfriend Anna and uh DJ and Jackie kalamoto and we came in and we won the finals 3-0 and it was just super cool I mean 25k.

Um it was like probably the best weekend I think I've ever had it was just so fun so awesome so for my top tip on the serve I would say really focus on squeezing the paddle you can also focus on visualizing your target give yourself a spot you want to hit to and then you squeeze and then you.

Point the tip of the paddle to your Target and when I say tip of the paddle usually I mean the top of the paddle and you're just pointing right to your target so that again it's a hard ball hard surface as your paddle moves around the ball also reacts to that so you really want to keep all of your shots in pickleball pretty simple and really that.

Stroke really dictates where the ball goes for my top tip getting the ball getting your serve as deep as possible into the Oppo into the opponent's Court one thing you really want to make sure is that you get you you stop balance right you want to try and use your legs with this as well if you just swing with your arm it's harder to control the.

Depth of the ball okay so what you really want to do you want to load with your legs and really swing through the ball there I play Pickleball uh I grew up playing tennis and so once I started working I had to find something else that uh I could play and pickleball was what some of my friends started doing and once I.

Uh started getting beat by the four rows I was hooked and I've been playing ever since the best attributes a player should have when they're playing pickleball everything I mean with all sports it comes with the mind uh you got to have that and then you gotta have some fast hands and uh a little bit of confidence.

My goals in pickleball are uh to win a title I have modeled my game mainly on just uh my tennis game with the new paddles I haven't seen a lot of the limitations that players who have been in the game longer have seen so it allows me to be a little bit more creative but obviously seeing some of the top players in the.

Game it would be silly not to kind of take a few pieces from their game and try to incorporate it as well yeah so I grew up in Seattle Washington uh love the rain love hiking uh and now I'm in Orange County uh do invest in banking and uh yeah been playing pickleball for about eight months now and just loving it.

So you mentioned Jack a little bit and I think people are very interested especially coming from you who played tennis at such a high level what are the things for you that have translated really well from tennis to pickle and what don't and what have you had to sort of adjust in the most modest way uh most humble way the things that I'm good at.

In tennis kind of the handsy chess match and obviously that shows a little more in doubles singles is tougher to kind of uh display the more handsome kind of finesse feel stuff obviously things are happening fast loudly fast pickleball you have to slow down for a pretty good amount you kind of pick and choose your times to be aggressive you got to be.

More patient for sure over the course of uh you know the game uh matches whatever it is so tennis is kind of more of a full steam ahead a lot of the time and and obviously the smaller court all that type of stuff so less hard to cover and and all that but um yeah I think the the cat and mouse the the handsy stuff um I love doing so yeah it's very much.

Enjoyable so the players that I like on tour is uh Dylan Frazier account Dawson uh Thomas Wilson and then some players are the cycling tour and I'm gonna go with uh Colin John's Ben Johns and um Hannah Johns.

wait all the John oh the John yeah and that was gonna keep going with the Johnsons too to have Hunter Hunter Johnson Jason JW Johnson uh Georgia Johnson although anyone with Jonathan the advice that I would give somebody that wants to go pro is to not do it.

No I'm just kidding I would probably tell them to you know watch their diet on and off the court I would tell them to practice and play as much as possible and I think if you want to go pro you kind of have to be obsessed with it as all of us are and try your hardest every time you go to the gym or you play some pickleball or you know don't eat that.

Fried chicken grilled wood my biggest strength of the goris uh my ability to deal with woman and my greatest strength on the court is probably my forehing flick good morning my worst what was the question.

Okay we okay my my biggest weakness on the court is my consistency I am probably not the most consistent player on tour unfortunately and my biggest weakness of the poor would be probably disciplined just you know not working out every day or not practicing.

My hardest every day or you know eating the fried chicken well my favorite artist would be future and uh my favorite song on my Waka song would be Pub and zooties so she's calling me Daddy I see myself playing fickle for a long time I personally really enjoyed I love uh I love the atmosphere I love the.

Sport I love practicing getting better every day so I'm hoping you know until I'm at least like 45 it's my guess because Matt ride is 40 something is still very good at it yeah on tournament day usually wake up um yeah I probably has some prepared for us for breakfast and then we get as quick as we can we go to the courts to.

Try and steal some of the practice course those are hard to get and then uh hype each other up uh not tournament day if it's a work day um I'm working so we're for Nike so uh usually just doing that all day and then trying to get some good food in if it's a weekend we love to play disc golf I hang out with the family one of my role.

Models I'd like to see my high school coach Kevin Hedberg uh he really taught me strategy of tennis and it rolls right over to pickleball so uh every day I play Pickleball I think of him and and some of the things he taught me well I was pretty hurt back when I was 25 and I kept trying to struggle through tennis and then chicken and pickle popped up in.

Kansas City and I found out what pickleball was and played it loved it realized I could have all the cool parts of tennis without the pain and I fell in love with it and all the people here the Indiana we met at chicken and pickle so that they said this girl's really good you're gonna have to play with her and I met her we played and she said you want.

To go play pro okay so we played Pro and we hit it off one thing that's very very important here is don't choose the wrong ball be patient if that means you're gonna have to do this 30 40 50 100 times do the same thing until you get the right ball you have to stay mentally focused in the.

Bring the net into play on this and you're going to hit the ball in the net in this case I got too impatient I picked the wrong ball to attack I go either maybe maybe you got tired and you just wanted to get out of the situation you're wanting to force the issue and win the point again patience if you take the wrong.

Ball I hit that ball so low below the net okay and I'm missing to the net I have to up on the ball if I put a certain amount of pace on it it's gonna fly out or even clip the net my only nickname I don't want to call myself out I don't think I made this up but I did have some influence in in creating this nickname is Miser King I.

Wear visor on tour um some people call me King so visor King goes goes with it you know we think so many guys on tour in general have great uh locks of hair and they hide it by just putting on these big hats you know jaded Billy has great hair he has a headband covers a lot Tyson amazing hair but has that big hat on it's hard to see.

His mullet I want to let the world see what I have to offer when it comes to my hair and I take a lot of inspiration from Andy Roddick um when he won the US Open in 2003 his lone major he was wearing a visor he then stopped wearing it and he didn't ever win a major again so I think both athletically and style wise um it's.

Important for me to wrap the visor what's surprising about pickleball I think just how fun it is for every type of person like I obviously love planning I love to compete and now go watch like my my birth mom or my grandma's play but their local wrecked games and they're just having a blast and not like having a.

Blast like oh they're on the beach reading a book like they are locked in trying to beat their friend Amy who's a three five and it's nine nine they're tight on served they're asking me for help and everyone can get super into it in a way that is is harder to get into other sports so he bought me that people might not know.

Um I I grew up with two dads I have big dads um and back when I was a kid my parents couldn't get married illegally so I got really into Politics As a result I turned Pro last year uh in 2022 after a pretty good singles run at the Florida open in March.

Okay we okay my my biggest weakness on the court is my consistency I am probably not the most consistent player on tour unfortunately and my biggest weakness of the poor would be probably disciplined just you know not working out every day or not practicing.

My hardest every day for you know eating enough Fried Chicken well my favorite artist would be future and uh my favorite song on my Waka song would be Puffin and zooties so she's calling me Daddy I see myself playing fickle for a long time I personally really enjoyed I love uh I love the atmosphere I love the.

Sport I love practicing getting better every day so I'm hoping you know until I'm at least like 45 is my guess because Matt Wright is 40 something is still very good at it yeah on tournament day usually wake up um yeah I probably has stuff prepared for us for breakfast and then we get as quick as we can we go to the courts to.

Again patience if you take the wrong ball I hit that ball so low below the net okay and I'm missing to the net I have to up on the ball if I put a certain amount of pace on it it's gonna fly out or even clip the net foreign this is a test for our friend Keaton one.

Two three four five six seven eight nine ten nine eight seven six for Hive four three two one my only nickname I don't want to call myself out I don't think I made this up but I did have some influence in in creating this nickname is Miser King I wear visor on tour um some people call me the king so visor.

King goes goes with it you know we think so many guys on tour in general have great uh locks of hair and they hide it by just putting on these big hats you know Jade Billy has great hair he has a headband covers a lot Tyson amazing hair but has that big hat on it's hard to see his mullet I want to let the world see what I have to offer when it comes to my.

Hair and I take a lot of inspiration from Andy Roddick um when he won the US Open in 2003 his lone major he was wearing a visor he then stopped wearing it and he didn't ever win a major again so I think both athletically and style wise um it's important for me to wrap the visor what's surprising about pickleball.

I think just how fun it is for every type of person like I obviously love planning I love to compete and then I'll go watch like my my birth mom or my grandma play that their their local wreck games and they're just having a blast and not like having a blast like oh they're on the beach reading a book like they are.

Locked in trying to beat their friend Amy who's a three five and it's nine nine they're tight on served they're asking me for help and everyone can get super into it in a way that is is harder to get into other sports so he bought me that people might not know um I I grew up with two dads I have big dads.

Um and back when I was a kid my parents couldn't get married illegally so I got really into Politics As a result I turned Pro last year uh in 2022 after a pretty good singles run at the Florida open in March okay so there's two tips that I'm going to give any beginners that have an issue.

Or a hard time hitting a backhand number one making sure that contact point is way out in front of their bodies when they hit the ball and number two is making sure that they're staying down through the ball so when I hit it I'm not lifting with my legs I'm staying down and my knees through the ball you'll notice my.

Position here if I hold it thank you if I hold it I'm way out in front here with my contact point and I'm down make sure my shoulders are sideways way out in front and staying low through the ball whether they play Pickleball um I just think is one of the most entertaining and farm Sports to play.

I just have fun the whole time even when I'm practicing and drilling it's fun and playing as well tournaments just the competition that really friendly environment uh who are my partners and what do I practice I usually practice at Naples Florida we have a bunch of pro players there we have a Simoni we have one hotel.

Is we have a Catherine um Brandon long so it's kind of like we mix it up and it's pretty nice to have that many Pros in the area what was hard and what was easy to pick up in pickleball was probably the hardest at the beginning the soft game so the dinks and uh kind of like getting.

Used to the footwork and that you need for that and then the easy part was probably the ground strokes uh that was kind of like pretty fast so since I came from tennis and that pick up really really easy the best speed of advisor is saved uh probably be patient but when you have to pull the trigger you have to pull the trigger at the beginning I.

Thought that I was gonna grind everyone out and it's not how it works and bigger well you have to take your chances and an attack when you have to attack where are you more of a grinder and tenant I was uh usually in tennis I was a grinder yeah I will melt people down and then when I have the chance maybe but probably more defensive player so that.

Switching that mindset was uh was hard for you uh yes probably but the game is such a different sport that I don't feel like the mindsets are so they need to be so different that really I wouldn't say that I brought anything from the mental board.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see people doing on a ground stroke or a drive is they think that taking a big backswing is going to give them a lot more power this is a myth not true at all the bigger backs when you take what it does is it it makes it forces your contact point to be late or behind you which results in your elbow coming.

Forward like this to try to over correct the ball to go over the net what this does is it makes your elbow do all the work so if you're starting to feel tennis elbow or golfer's elbow any of those any elbow injuries that comes from hitting the ball behind you so we're going to try to avoid that go for with a small backswing so am I from my ready.

Position my contact point my backswing is really if I just turn my body that's all the backswing I need so it's a short back swing that elbow is still in front of my body maybe one inch behind is all from there step into that ball and make sure I'm hitting the contact point out in front so the big back swing prevents that contact point from being out in.

Front um I think the sport of pickleball is for people who like the social aspect of sports um you're so close to the other person and it's definitely more intimate than a lot of other racquet Sports and um it's for a wider audience than something like tennis or basketball because it's.

Honestly not that hard to get started um so I think since it's so easy to really kind of jump in and like the barrier to entry so low I think it's for like a wide variety of people I don't really have like a signature shot but I do have a signature thing that I do which is I split step like 10 times in between every shot it's mostly because I.

Drink so much coffee and I just get so excited when I'm out there especially because I'm playing doubles with Tyson McGuffin and he just gets me so hyped when I'm around him you know that mullet the teeth the um you know everything I don't want to say the temperature there veneers whatever they are it's just he just kissed me so high.

Though just look at the guy he's like a physical representation of excitement so yeah I'd take a lot of split steps and um that's that's what I do if that answers your question I don't know if it even did my most memorable win is probably when I won the major league pickleball in Newport Beach last year I was on a team with my girlfriend Anna.

And uh DJ and Jackie kalamoto and we came in and we won the finals 3-0 and it was just super cool I mean 25k um it was like probably the best weekend I think I've ever had it was just so fun so awesome so for my top tip on the serve I would say really focus on squeezing the paddle you.

Can also focus on visualizing your target give yourself a spot you want to hit to and then you squeeze and then you point the tip of the paddle to your Target and when I say tip of the paddle usually I mean the top of the paddle and you're just pointing right to your target so that again it's a hard ball hard surface as your paddle moves around.

The ball also reacts to that so you really want to keep all of your shots in pickleball pretty simple and really that stroke really dictates where the ball goes for my top tip getting the ball getting your serve as deep as possible into the Oppo into the opponent's Court one thing you really want to make sure is that you get you you stop balance.

Right you want to try and use your legs with this as well if you just swing with the arm it's harder to control the depth of the ball okay so what you really want to do you want to load with your legs and really swing through the ball there I play Pickleball uh I grew up playing tennis and so once I started working I had to find something else that uh I.

Could play and pickleball was what some of my friends started doing and once I uh started getting beat by the four rows I was hooked and I've been playing ever since the best attribute to player should have when they're playing pickleball everything I mean with all sports it comes with the mind uh you gotta have.

That and then you gotta have some fast hands and uh a little bit of confidence my goals in pickleball are uh to win a title I have modeled my game mainly on just uh my tennis game with the new paddles I haven't seen a lot of the limitations that players who have been in the game longer have seen so it allows me to be a.

Little bit more creative but obviously seeing some of the top players in the game it would be silly not to kind of take a few pieces from their game and try to incorporate it as well yeah so I grew up in Seattle Washington uh love the rain love hiking uh and now I'm in Orange County uh do invest in banking and uh.

Yeah been playing pickleball for about eight months now and just loving it so you mentioned Jack a little bit and I think people are very interested especially coming from you who played tennis at such a high level what are the things for you that have translated really well from tennis to pickle and what don't and what have you had to sort.

Of adjust in the most modest way uh most humble way the things that I'm good at in tennis kind of the handsy chess match and obviously that shows a little more in doubles singles is tougher to kind of display the more hands kind of finesse feel stuff obviously things are happening fast loudly fast pickleball you have to slow down for a pretty good.

Amount you kind of pick and choose your times to be aggressive you got to be more patient for sure over the course of uh you know the game uh matches whatever it is so tennis is kind of more of a full steam ahead a lot of the time and then obviously the smaller court all that type of stuff so less hard to cover and and all that but um yeah I think the.

The cat and mouse the the handsy stuff um I love I love doing so yeah it's very much enjoyable so the players that I like on tour is uh Dylan Frazier uh Callum Dawson uh Thomas Wilson and then some players are at the slack on tour and I'm gonna go with uh Colin John's Ben.

Johns and um Hannah Johns hey Oliver John all the John yeah and that was gonna keep going with the Johnsons too they had Hunter Hunter Johnson Jade Johnson JW Johnson uh Georgia Johnson.

Anyone with John's in their name the advice that I would give somebody that wants to go pro is to not do it no I'm just kidding I would probably tell them to you know watch their diet on and off the court I would tell them to practice and play as much as possible and I think if you want to go pro you kind of have to be obsessed with it as.

All of us are and try your hardest every time you go to the gym or you play some pickleball or you know don't eat that fried chicken grilled one my biggest strength of the quarters uh my ability to deal with woman and my greatest strength on the court is probably my foreign flick good morning.

My worst question okay we okay my my biggest weakness on the court is my consistency I am probably not the most consistent player on tour unfortunately and my biggest weakness of the poor.

Would be probably disciplined just you know not working out every day or not practicing my hardest every day for you know eating enough Fried Chicken well my favorite artist would be future and uh my favorite song on my Waka song would be Puffin and zooties so she's calling me Daddy.

I see myself playing pickle for a long time I personally really enjoy it I love uh I love the atmosphere I love the sport I love practicing and getting better every day so I'm hoping you know until I'm at least like 45 as my guess because Matt Wright is 40 something is still very good at it yeah on tournament day usually wake up.

Um yeah I probably has something prepared for us for breakfast and then we get as quick as we can we go to the courts to try and steal some of the practice course those are hard to get and then uh hype each other up uh not tournament day if it's a work day um I'm working so we're for Nike so uh usually just doing that all day and then.

Trying to get some good food in if it's a weekend we love to play disc golf I hang out with the family one of my role models I like to see my high school coach Kevin Hedberg uh he really taught me strategy of tennis and it rolls right over to pickleball so uh every day I play Pickleball I think of him and and some of the things he taught me well I.

Was pretty hurt back when I was 25 and I kept trying to struggle through tennis and then chicken and pickle popped up in Kansas City and I I found out what pickleball was and played it loved it realized I could have all the cool parts of tennis without the pain and I fell in love with it and all the people here the Indiana we met at chicken and pickle so.

That they said this girl's really good you have to play with her and I met her we played and she said you want to go play pro okay so we played Pro and we hit it off one thing that's very very important here is don't choose the wrong ball be patient if that means you're gonna have.

To do this 30 40 50 100 times do the same thing until you get the right ball you have to stay mentally focused in the situation okay worst thing you can do is try to pull the trigger and attack from a ball that's below the net level around your ankles now what's going to happen is you're gonna have to hit up if you play cross court again your opponent's.

Gonna slam me right back down at you because she's receiving a high ball or you're putting that you take the net you bring the net into play on this and you're going to hit the ball in the net in this case I got too impatient I picked the wrong ball to attack I go either maybe maybe you got tired and you just wanted to get out of the situation.

You're wanting to force the issue and win the point again patience if you take the wrong ball I hit that ball so low below the net okay and I'm missing to the net I have stood up on the ball if I put a certain amount of pace on it it's gonna fly out or even clip the net my only nickname I don't want to call.

Myself out I don't think I made this off but I did have some influence in in creating this nickname is Miser King I wear visor on tour um some people call me King so visor King goes good with it you know we think so many guys on tour in general have great uh locks of hair and they hide it by just putting on these big hats you.

Know jadability has great hair he has a headband covers a lot Tyson amazing hair but has that big hat on it's hard to see his mullet I want to let the world see what I have to offer when it comes to my hair and I take a lot of inspiration from Andy Roddick um when he won the US Open in 2003 his lone major he was wearing a visor he.

Then stopped wearing it and he didn't ever win a major again so I think both athletically and style wise um it's important for me to wrap the visor what's surprising about pickleball I think just how fun it is for every type of person like I obviously love planning I love to compete and then I'll go watch like my.

My birth mom or my grandma's play but their their local wrecked games and they're just having a blast it's not like having a blast like oh they're on the beach reading a book like they are locked in trying to beat their friend Amy who's a three five and it's nine nine and they're tight on served they're asking me for help and everyone can get.

Super into it in a way that is is harder to get into other sports so he bought me that people might not know um I I grew up with two dads I have paid ads um and back when I was a kid my parents couldn't get married illegally so I got really into Politics As a result I turned Pro last year uh in 2022 after a.

Pretty good singles run at the Florida open in March okay there's two tips that I'm going to give any beginners that have an issue or a hard time hitting a backhand number one making sure that contact point is way out in front of their bodies when they hit the ball.

And number two is making sure that they're staying down through the ball so when I hit it I'm not lifting with my legs I'm staying down in my knees through the ball you'll notice my position here if I hold it thank you if I hold it I'm way out in front here with my contact point and I'm down make sure my shoulders are sideways.

Way out in front and staying low through the ball whether they play peekable um I just think it's one of the most entertaining and farm Sports to play I just have fun the whole time even when I'm practicing and drilling this fun and playing as well tournaments just the competition that really friendly.

Environment uh who are my partners and what do I practice I usually practice at Naples Florida we have a bunch of pro players there we have a simony we have one hotel is we have a Catherine um Brandon long so it's kind of like we mix it up and it's pretty nice to have that.

Many Pros in the area what was hard and what was easy to pick up in pickleball was probably the hardest at the beginning the soft game so the dinks and uh kind of like getting used to the footwork and that you need for that and then the easy part was probably the ground strokes uh that was kind of like pretty fast so since I came from tennis.

A grinder and tenant I was uh usually in tennis of the grinder yeah I will melt people down and then when I have the chance maybe but probably more defensive player so that switching that mindset was uh was hard for you uh yes probably uh but again it's such a different sport that I don't feel like the mindset social they need to be so.

Defended really I I wouldn't say that I brought anything from the mental board one of the biggest mistakes that I see people doing on a ground stroke or a drive is they think that taking a big backswing is going to give them a lot more power this is a myth not true at all the bigger backs when you take what.

Know everything I don't want to say the temperature there veneers whatever they are it's just he just kissed me so high though just look at the guy he's like a physical representation of excitement so yeah I'd take a lot of split steps and um that's that's what I do if that answers your question I don't know if it.

Even did my most memorable win is probably when I won the major league pickleball in Newport Beach last year I was on a team with my girlfriend Anna and uh DJ and Jackie kalamoto and we came in and we won the finals 3-0 and it was just super cool I mean 25k um it was like probably the best weekend I think I've ever had it was just so fun.

So awesome so for my top tip on the serve I would say really focus on squeezing the paddle you can also focus on visualizing your target give yourself a spot you want to hit to and then you squeeze and then you point the tip of the paddle to your Target and when I say tip of the paddle.

Usually I mean the top of the paddle and you're just pointing right to your target so that again it's a hard ball hard surface as your paddle moves around the ball also reacts to that so you really want to keep all of your shots in pickleball pretty simple and really that stroke really dictates where the ball goes for my top tip getting the ball.

Getting your serve as deep as possible into the Oppo into the opponent's Court one thing you really want to make sure is that you get you you stop balance right you want to try and use your legs with this as well if you just swing with your arm it's harder to control the depth of the ball okay so what you really want to do you want to load with.

Your legs and really swing through the ball there this stays out of Santa Barbara California now a resident of Austin Texas she sure is and getting a lot of good practice down there really impressed these first dates you wonder how they go they got a bronze in their first match.

Or in their first tournament together and here they are playing for gold really well done her game has been terrific yeah she's been so solid playing that left side and on the right side is Jana gretchkina I'm also lovering loving the mirroring outfits ladies the black and red I mean it is a championship Sunday I mean come on I'm.

Taking a note from Tiger Woods and his uh Championship Sunday red and this is also team free agent you know she's using a demo paddle it says it right on the paddle there for Gretch Kina she should keep writing demo on her paddles with how well she's been playing and again we talk about these new teams rolls and understanding how and what you.

Need to do to play well they've got this figured out really impressive but let's head to the other side the number one team here in North Carolina Annalee Waters coming up a month-long break just 16 years old and man is she playing Fearless she is you knew what the break did last year when she.

Came back and she just wrecked everybody same thing happening here and uh I know stratman and Gretch Keenan don't want me to say this but I'm going to say it anyway she hasn't lost in women's doubles all year long well and she hasn't lost alongside that woman right there Catherine parento she's played multiple tournaments in 2023 having.

Picked up multiple titles as well Catherine parento is an absolute Force out of Canada she sure is she was hoping to defend all three of her titles from last year she won the Triple Crown in North Carolina just has one opportunity to do so did pick up the bronze and mixed doubles got knocked out of singles by the local favorite Brooke Buckner so.

Congrats to Brooke for that's a big victory for her but these two the challenge cam with these two is you're like okay well they got all the pace and they have the defense to go with it that's why it is really difficult to beat them you can see they have yet to drop a game but I will say that number four seed of.

Glossman and bright that was a very fun matchup to watch Vivian glossman making her professional pickleball debut here in North Carolina alongside Anna bright and I'm hoping that's a partnership we get to see again yeah I mean Anna bright was sort of stuck all of a sudden you know Andrea Coop was hurt in the prior tournament.

Trying to get back couldn't couldn't get here couldn't get healthy and what is Anna Brighton she calls her old tennis buddy the fellow Cal Baron Bosman shows up against these two and played terrific and then Gretch Keenan stratman look at who they beat Buckner then they beat the red hot Cali Smith and Lucy kovilova who won the last.

Tournament that's a great win and then Irvin and kawamoto looked fantastic yesterday and that was a slug Fest that was daunting as they hit that game three and you take a look I mean they had to take down some top tier teams in order to get to this championship match two of those going to three games played but Annalee Waters and Catherine parento.

Already have two titles to their name in 2023 Annalee Waters has five women's doubles titles she's only entered five tournaments this year and picked up each one in terms of women's Pro doubles so we get set now for the women's Pro doubles championship match what kenyana gretchkina and Lauren stratman do in terms of strategy you know the pace is.

Going to be coming their Direction and they've been playing with a lot of pace they have been so let's let's start with that maybe our pace is enough to get us going in this match I don't think they want to change what's gotten them here I think they have to be smart with the ball placement they do not want to speed the ball up from Bad.

Locations and we'll see it was interesting against Irvin and kalamoto how most of the balls will actually funnel to Lawrence stratman will that continue here or will Gretch Keena see a lot more balls we'll keep an eye on that for sure all that cross-court match-up might come to fruition between Lauren stradman and Annalee Waters not sure if.

She started on the right she's got ball in hand so maybe she is on that right side but that's one of the other nice Parts about these two in their game is just so much flexibility switching from the right to the left and that puts pressure on the other side because you work out a scenario and a pattern that you want and then wait a minute annalize.

In front of me so that changes everything and that's what makes a great player being comfortable on both sides because it just adds to the available things you can do if you get into a problem in the middle of a match well it's a big moments for Yana gretchkina now in her very first championship match in any discipline.

Here on the carvana PPA tour maybe a few little nerves but Lauren stratman she can settle her she's been in this position before it came back in 2021 and get this it was actually facing off against the woman standing on the other side and Catherine parento she was partnered up with Jesse Irvin at the time.

I was back at the Masters in 2021. I think the thing that amateur players can learn from when you go out and play your fun wreck games and I don't care what level or where you wish to get to don't just play one side play both sides and get used to it don't just say I don't have a.

Backhand or whatever get out there and work on those things so that you can play either side and have fun doing it both ways so this is gonna be a fun one let's play Pickleball and Catherine looks to take the first shot just so you're aware as well we're playing best three of five for these gender doubles matchups on Championship.

Sunday Annalee Waters from the right straddling the center line already a different look as we've seen them dink to Yana gretchkina originally out of Vladimir Russia now residing in Kansas City Missouri she played her Collegiate tennis there as well.

The University of Missouri Kansas City and one back-to-back championships in 2018 and 2019 there's a look at Yana recently married as well to another Pro pickleball player Ben Newell yeah Mr Newell's got the upset of the year uh with his impressive victory over Ben and Colin Johns they've only lost once and Mr Norman.

and Jana just about a month ago has actually gone full-time pickleball she was also an accountant but has since moved away from that and has dedicated herself fully to this game and I also love seeing the approach from Catherine prento and Annalee Waters they talked about it in a post-match.

Interview that they like to kind of spread the ball around to not allow one specific player to get into a rhythm on the opposing side for sure and if if you get repetition you start to feel comfortable and then you're grooved and then that flows into all of your other shots throughout the day so you do not.

Want that from an opponent and after a slow start three quick points in a row here for these two and they just keep switching back and forth they're going to play it straight up so far even shifting from that left finding the back end traditionally it's the forehand coming across most people want to do.

That why are we adding degree at difficulty Anna Lee Waters because she loves and poach there's a two-handed counter from Catherine parento now up 5-0 yeah that Ball's got to get down from time and they are going to put a stop to this so after a pitcher's duel to start it with zero zero for a while.

Grand Slam and a solo shot and it's five nothing here from parental and Waters and they look fantastic Annalee Waters the number one player in the world coming back to the pickleball court after a month off and she does not look like she has missed a step right now with a 5-0 advantage in women's Pro.

Doubles alongside Catherine prento just game one action so into that timeout what can the conversation be for Gretch Kina and stratman get the ball on the ground and then find an opportunity to attack and they had two beautiful attacks there that were fended off you can't let that discourage you.

There's another one you just you can't believe that you've found the exact spot in parento can get the paddle there and keep the ball down that's just really good from Catherine and the track just continues they are hitting each of their spots beautifully right now all on a one there that's right dominant.

That little one was a nice shot for Lord strapman finding that left hip looking to find their first two quite and they get their first off the Mystique.

And dropping the direction of Catherine parento yeah get that ball on the ground and Gretch King is coming in you can drop and crash just like that oh they showed off some really nice hands and defensive plays but the net just got in the way eight two one and it's Catherine parento this time Oh.

Canada that was impressive and that's what you want to do when your partner's engaged with just let them stay engaged don't try and put your paddle in there they know where the ball is going and where it's likely to come back handling Waters with the paddle check we all do it oh it's always the paddle.

Spot heads up nearly took out an eye great lob with this first lob we've seen in this match really well executed by stratman and then sit right on that kitchen line wait for something and really good finish and there's a great point to understand.

Understanding where the next ball goes backhand attack down the middle the reply is likely to be in the middle and that is exactly where Annalee waters went to get that combo and finish it a beautiful shot for Lauren stratman getting herself going there and like the two-hand backhand a little disguise to that.

Oh and strawman had played it so well third shot Drive fifth shot Drive seventh shot Drive nine shot drive and she was in great position and again parento is able to just keep that going and throws it back into the kitchen that's really impressive but that's you you can't let that deter you because that's the way they are going to be able.

To hang in there in this match it's just wide gets Annalee Waters and Catherine parento to a game point and gets it off the net so eleven to three for the number one seed yeah after a slow start where was Zero Zero for the first two or three minutes of this match it was all the top seed.

That's why they got the one next to their name and that's why Anna Lee Waters has not lost in women's doubles all year long welcome back everybody a dominant performance from Catherine parento and Anna Lee Waters here at the OS first North Carolina open presented.

By interlinks there's a good look at Yana Gretch Kina and going to have to get into their game and not be discouraged when their attacks keep coming back they got to stay on it and they gotta execute better or else it is going to be a short stay on Center Court that's just too good parento straddles.

The sideline and hits a clean winner off a pretty good drop from Gretch Keena zero zero one one second serve zero zero two inside out let's stay aggressive from stratman so similar to game number one no points scored after the first two side outs.

The fundamentals are gonna have to be Perfection to keep this within range gotta make all your thirds get to that kitchen and there's the defense you always know you love The Flash and the power of parento and Anna Lee Waters but my goodness the defense there stratman and Gretch Keen are way ahead throughout.

That rally and don't have a point to show for it second served yeah gretzkina gets a shot in zero zero two side up these two are going to be playing a few more events together come June and July Gretch Keenan stratman.

That is zero zero one the two for two and podiums no matter how this match ends up again there's the thirds and fifths have got to be made this is your chance to get yourself going in a match catches Annalee and she is wearing glasses I'm not sure where that caught her.

One zero two point two zero two sign out Kelly Waters with the serve and a clean winning dink for Catherine barento had closed middle and and very aggressive Court positioning if.

You do that that ball has got to hit the ground great job by parento not trying to over hit a wide open court uh no disguise there full windup full power coming through the middle there by Anna Lee Waters they've erased the two-point deficit and all of a sudden they have the advantage.

Again they were caught with the paddles on the wrong side but their hands are so good they're able to adjust and keep the ball in a safe place and you know if you think all the way back to the very first event of 2023 Yannick richkin actually played alongside Catherine parento to start out the year.

Oh as well Anna Lee played alongside Anna bright where she took home the title going back and forth I'll win within I'll win with Catherine back of Catherine here good fire fight there but this is this is why this Duo is so lethal you're like hey this is this is tight again oh we got up two nothing and next thing you know you're.

Calling time out and you're in a huge hole again so Annalee Waters and Catherine parento back on top here at game number two in this best of five in Charlotte North Carolina cam is commentators you know what we love outstanding returns they're so critical to pickleball and it turns out.

Soda's bent it's an investment platform working to provide returns through alternative assets they make it possible for investors big and small to diversify their portfolio with fine wine and rare Spirits that's right SEC qualified offerings that you can add to your Investment Portfolio learn more at vint.co.

Plenty of support on their side Julian Arnold having the conversation he was a big proponent of those two in terms of putting some strategy together keeping them steady as they go and there you see the up-and-comer Judith Castillo unit has been really really good and is a player.

On the rise love to see you did out on the court and good to see her supporting her fellow players my goodness so many neck cores and I think that's what Lauren said she's like what are we supposed to do how many times do we have to readjust our paddles off the tape why and this is where you've got to get.

The frustration back in the box and get out there and play seven in a row so the question is do you strike first against this team of Catherine and Anna Lee or do you wait to counter I think you got a strike first on the ball but you got to earn the right to strike first.

It's a great volley there from Gretch Keen a much better return deep so let's see if they can get to the kitchen line here what is it really fun getting a chance to catch up with Diana gretchkina at the beginning of this season just talking about her playing style loves to play with a little bit of a riskier style in.

Accordance to what she has said just in terms of some of her shot selection she likes to be the aggressor and Natalie Waters just finding a phenomenal angle off the bounce yeah again just looking for something reaches in there takes it out of the air and rolls that Cross Court going straight at the body of Ale yeah.

Stratman two for two on great lobs you can see on the track down you don't want to swing crazily you want to try and drop that but uh stratman was ready good response here from these two little discussion about where to take the return number one the other thing the Catherine and Anna Lee are doing very well is when the ball.

Is over over hit they're letting it go it's another one strength of these two don't play out balls there's a big shot from Yana gretchkina she was introduced to the sport back in 2017 in her sophomore year she said her tennis coach actually took them on a retreat and they played for fun and kind of went away from it through covet and.

Then found it again after her tennis career had finished up she said she was more of one of those that slowly started to develop a love for the game I think that law just got away from Yana a little bit sometimes you get in your head oh I'm gonna love him I'm gonna.

Love him and instead she could have absolutely tattooed that ball and quickly another game point here but yet instead it's a side out for gretchkina and stratman second serve yeah thirds and fifths have been a problem here in game number two four ten two Annalee Waters with a great combination.

The one-two punch off the forehand ten for what game two is theirs parento and Waters are up 2-0 Gretch Kina and stratman look to respond here in game three against that number one seed North Carolina loves them some.

Pickleball especially that gentleman in the front row it's been playing pickleball for 10 years if his shirt's telling the truth oh Donna gretchkina and Lauren stratman here in their Championship matchup versus Catherine parento and Anna Lee Waters the first championship for Yana.

Gretchkina regardless of whichever way this goes this is a big moment for the two of them in terms of their progression and their partnership you need these opportunities and Reps and learn from it I think what I saw there is we need to go to Catherine Moore we'll see if my lip reading skills and their execution of that is okay there's.

First one okay got exactly what they wanted out of it just need to make it tied up a nice shot selection for Lauren stratman getting that down at the feet Lauren strapman actually transferred into Westmont where she.

Became a three-time All-American the NAIA level also a three-time player of the year that's no joke right there that's no joke coach fire dad throughout her tennis career handling Waters and Catherine parento bring every phase of their game.

Just ridiculous track down and then they know if they throw it up in the air they're still in the point because they both defend so well what a get from Anna Lee Waters because the lob has been working for stratman let's do the little fairy hop from Catherine parento oftentimes when you're trying to find.

The drop whether it's from the baseline or transition you just got to give a little extra love off the toe a little sprinkle dust there get it up there get over Riley Newman's got the best human willpower of all with that of course but you know they have funneled they have funneled the ball to.

Parental it's definitely 3-0 tough sir from Catherine parento that was an area she worked on in her game yes going more with this open stance from the past year or so so good annalize like hey I'm getting frozen out over here so it came running.

In front of Catherine made a perfect third and then nice inside out we'll see if the isolation continues but when you know you're getting the ball that just makes you even more eager and ready and parento has stepped up perfectly just a beautiful Drop right there so much depth on that return and then the pressure of Anna Lee in front of you.

Just lurking and that puts pressure on where you want to put the ball even after it's at your ankles man it's been so fun to watch the Resurgence of Catherine parento these two now on the doubles Court they also face off multiple times on the singles Court good camaraderie between the two.

Yeah we went to the next stop on try something different they're putting Yana on the left but this is eight straight and they're three away from just running this cleanly to a gold medal Annalee Waters picked up five gold medals and women's Pro doubles to this point in the five.

Tournaments she's played Catherine parento part of two of those hoping to be an additional third now Championship point for Parental and Waters and out of bounds Catherine parento and Annalee Waters giving out hugs and walking away with the gold just absolutely dominant performance smart.

Strategically great execution tremendous run from Gretch Tina and stratman to get here but they ran into a force that is just too much to be reckoned with and Anna Lee Waters remains undefeated in women's doubles in 2023. Emily waters picks up her sixth women's double title of the Year Catherine brento with their third and more hugs.

Why not the OS first North Carolina open presented by Interlakes Catherine parento and Annalee Waters with a phenomenal women's doubles competition they were outstanding now standing Courtside with Cameron Blackwood thanks cam annelie we talked last night you said you're really trying to spread.

The court but today you were really attacking the middle why the change in strategy well me and Catherine have never played Lauren and Jana before and a good start is always the middle especially with a new team I don't think they played together that much uh if they have ever before so me and Catherine were just trying to you know.

Take middle balls to kind of take away their angles and you know see what they could come up with but I feel like the middle ball is a good strategy especially against a team you haven't played before and Catherine you both have incredible coaches over there with Athena and Lee but we see sometimes they're separated.

Talking to you differently but is it the same information just structured towards your strengths yeah I would say for sure sometimes I just go up to Athena I'm like okay what am I doing wrong here do you see anything and then when she tells me her side of the story then I go to Lee and then she we basically come up with very similar ideas but it's amazing.

To have both of them on our bench it's a great support for us and you're originally from North Carolina I saw your dad in the elevator this morning saying that almost all your family is here but just how special is it to play in front of them yeah it's been amazing they've never seen me play Pickleball in person before because I.

Unfortunately couldn't come last year but it's just been amazing to kind of you know show them the sport and have that cheering Squad just kind of relaxes me and just lets me play out there there you have it let's get the Trope in their hands on behalf of the carvana PPA tour as well as our title sponsor OS first we have the president Josh Higgins on.

Emily you want to help me with this happening grab the middle go this way all the way back up against the wall why don't you do circles I have to stop and jump this isn't a squeegee it's amazing how this drives this court.

Yeah together yeah I know this is foreign I play Pickleball uh I grew up playing tennis and so once I started working I had to find something else that uh I could play and pickleball was what some.

Of my friends started doing and once I uh started getting beat by the four rows I was hooked and I've been playing ever since the best attributes a player should have when they're playing tickle ball everything I mean with all sports it comes with the mind you gotta have that and then you gotta have some fast hands.

And uh a little bit of confidence my goals in pickleball are uh to win a title I have modeled my game mainly on just uh my tennis game uh with the new paddles I haven't seen a lot of the limitations that players who have been in the game longer have seen so it allows me to be a little bit more creative but obviously.

Seeing some of the top players in the game it would be silly not to kind of take a few pieces from their game and uh try and incorporate it as well yeah so I grew up in Seattle Washington uh love the rain love hiking uh and now I'm in Orange County uh do invest in banking and uh yeah been playing pickleball for about.

Eight months now and just loving it so you mentioned Jack a little bit and I think people are very interested especially coming from you who played tennis at such a high level what are the things for you that have translated really well from tennis to pickle and what don't and what have you had to sort of adjust in the most modest way uh most.

Humble way the things that I'm good at in tennis kind of the handsy chess match and obviously that shows a little more double singles is tougher to kind of uh display the more hands kind of finesse feel stuff obviously things are happening fast Lobby fast pickleball you have to slow down for a pretty good amount you kind of pick and choose your.

Times to be aggressive you got to be more patient for sure over the course of uh you know the game uh matches whatever it is so tennis is kind of more of a full steam ahead a lot of the time and and obviously the smaller cord all that type of stuff so less important to cover and and all that but um yeah I think the the cat and mouse the the handsy stuff.

Um I love doing so yeah it's very much enjoyable so the players that I like on tour is uh Dylan Frazier uh Callum Dawson uh Thomas Wilson and then some players are at the slack on tour and I'm gonna go with uh Colin John's Ben Johns.

And um Hannah Johns John oh the John yeah and that was gonna keep going with the Johnsons too to have Hunter Hunter Johnson Jade Johnson JW Johnson uh Georgia Johnson all of them anyone with Johnson their name.

The advice that I would give somebody that wants to go pro is to not do it no I'm just kidding I would probably tell them to you know watch their diet on and off the court I would tell them to practice and play as much as possible and I think if you want to go pro you kind of have to be obsessed with it as all of us are and try your hardest every.

Time you go to the gym or you play some pickleball or you know don't eat that fried chicken grilled one my biggest strength of the goris uh my ability to deal with woman and my greatest strength on the court is probably my foreign flick my worst.

What was the question okay we okay my my biggest weakness on the court is my consistency I am probably not the most consistent player on tour unfortunately and my biggest weakness of the poor would be probably disciplined just you know not.

Working out every day or not practicing my hardest every day for you know eating the fried chicken well my favorite artist would be future and uh my favorite song mawaka song would be Puffin and zooties so she's calling me Daddy I see myself playing pickle for a long time I personally really enjoy it I love.

Uh I love the atmosphere I love the sport I love practicing getting better every day so I'm hoping you know until I'm at least like 45 it's my guess because Matt Wright is 40 something is still very good at it yeah on tournament day usually wake up um yeah I probably has stuff prepared for us for breakfast and then we get as.

Quick as we can we go to the courts to try and steal some of the practice course those are hard to get and then uh hype each other up uh not tournament day if it's a work day um I'm working so we're for Nike so uh usually just doing that all day and then trying to get some good food in if it's a weekend we love to play disc golf I.

Hang out with the family one of my role models I have to see my high school coach Kevin Hedberg uh he really taught me strategy of tennis and it rolls right over to pickleball so uh every day I play Pickleball I think of him and and some of the things he taught me well I was pretty hurt back when I was 25 and I kept trying to struggle through tennis.

And then chicken and pickle popped up in Kansas City and I found out what pickleball was and played it loved it realized I could have all the cool parts of tennis without the pain and I fell in love with it and all the people here the Indiana we met at chicken and pickle so that they said this girl's really good you're gonna have to play with her and I.

Met her we played and she said you want to go play pro okay so we played Pro and we hit it off all right one thing that's very very important here is don't choose the wrong ball be patient if that means you're gonna have to do this 30 40 50 100 times do the.

Same thing until you get the right ball you have to stay mentally focused in the situation okay worst thing you can do is try to pull the trigger and attack from a ball that's below the net level around your ankles now what's going to happen is you're gonna have to hit up if you play cross court again your opponent's gonna slam me right back down at you.

Because she's receiving a high ball or you're putting that you take the net you bring the net into play on this and you're going to hit the ball in the net in this case I got too impatient I picked the wrong ball to attack I gotta maybe maybe you got tired and you just wanted to get out of the situation you wanted to force the issue and win the.

Point again patience if you take the wrong ball I hit that ball so low below the net okay and I'm missing to the net I have to up on the ball if I put a certain amount of pace on it it's gonna fly out or even clip the net my only nickname I don't want to call myself out I don't think I made this up.

But I did have some influence in in creating this nickname is Miser King I wear visor on tour um some people call me King so visor King goes goes with it you know we think so many guys on tour in general have great uh locks of hair and they hide it by just putting on these big hats you know Shady Billy has great hair he has a.

Headband covers a lot Tyson amazing hair but has that big hat on it's hard to see his mullet I want to let the world see what I have to offer when it comes to my hair and I take a lot of inspiration from Andy Roddick um when he won the US Open in 2003 his lone major he was wearing a visor he then stopped wearing it and he didn't.

Ever win a major again so I think both athletically and style wise um it's important for me to wrap the visor what's surprising about pickleball I think just how fun it is for every type of person like I obviously love planning I love to compete and now go watch like my my birth mom or my grandma play that their.

Their local wreck games and they're just having a blast and not like having a blast like oh they're on the beach reading a book like they are locked in trying to beat their friend Amy who's a three five and it's nine nine they're tight on served they're asking me for help and everyone can get super into it in a way that is is harder to get into.

Other sports so he bought me that people might not know um I I grew up with two dads I have paid dads um and back when I was a kid my parents couldn't get married illegally so I got really into Politics As a result I turned Pro last year uh in 2022 after a pretty good singles run at the Florida.

it starts right here best three out of five Anna Lee Waters to serve the top seed let's play Pickleball that's a good point to get this show on the road yeah we're gonna have to match the two-hour epic women's and men's.

Doubles finals let's uh -oh okay yeah yeah you know annalize gonna have some fire in the belly we know we've seen how her mixed and women's doubles days ended so another point the waters train keeps rolling yeah we saw her stay back on one point.

In doubles and thread the needle there yeah I think there is a specificity of purpose here specificity yes all right my words are still I got I got plenty of words left okay that's sales deep so you know Catherine knows she's battled young Annalee before she knows she has to go for her serve.

Yeah and she painted a couple of lines yeah and Annelise still got a pretty good look at passing shot didn't make it no that's the level parental is gonna have to play and she's got to be the aggressor like she was there she knows she's giving up options but she's also forcing the issue yeah and over 10 years in age.

Yes and Miss serves our 100 in the budget here in singles gotta go for it get that short return give yourself a chance replay of course still in play we've got Kathy postal weight the lead referee Joey Jones II sehan Hunter tracking and Michael Nella Kona will make any decisions based on the video.

And points are being scored rapidly here on both sides and it's 4-3 now obviously for those of you just joining pickleball there is not a third number in the score because there is only one server on each side in singles so you will not hear Kathy say four four one that is not the way we'll do it here it's a sign of an accomplished referee.

That remembers yes that straight off the bat because you get really programmed to say that last number rally here like the French Open which Just Got Started good tennis Ellie very nice and Catherine down a bundle early has now forged ahead you know she missed a serve earlier no big whoop just keep blowing it into the.

Corner there so quickly Catherine parento up 6-4 we'll be right back all right we are back here at the acrotech Atlanta Open Women's singles final just getting underway again best three out of five Catherine parento was down early now has a two-point lead and Anna Lee had played a little.

Conservative meaning not coming in behind some of her returns and uh parento got the best of those so you saw her come immediately adjust that strategy that returned sales just a couple inches deep oh beautiful and even more beautiful from parento.

After being in trouble rolls a one-handed forehand little flick there down the line to keep the ball in the kitchen and in play and then track down the back end and force the mistake oh my I mean she was so wrong-footed on that she almost fell over I've never seen Anna Lee be off that off balance and yet she wins the.

Rally yeah we're into really turned the shoulders early trying to sell the down the line shot finding the feet of Anna Lee Waters as she's coming forward and on a dead Sprint so this is where you start to see the tennis players use those tennis muscle memories that they've had all.

Their lives and looked like it stayed in from this angle but hard to tell yes and the referee says yes that is in uh Anna Lee may have called that out so at the very least we're dealing with an overrule finally choosing deciding whether or not she's going to uh.

Use a challenge nope looks like she's going to continue whoa what seven okay who's about to say we almost had a problem here Catherine was 80 into a service motion there but didn't hit the ball that one just a little wide well that was close to uh mishap on the referee overturned so just got to be really clear with what.

The score is that would have been unfortunate that's a great backhand lovely a little dropper oh got a rental her movement is looking fantastic we're gonna get to this get a second hand on and well inside the sideline there Morgan come on beautiful work okay yeah.

Come on train is now left the station so yeah nice little Cub Raw and that ball just floating wide full stretch volley from parental very tough to control that did well just to get it uh inside Atlanta to be honest oh skitter.

Tried the drop and instead of dropping the ball over she drops the paddle on the ground Lucky Sevens everywhere so Anna Lee now has tied this up and great play on every Court here at the acrotech Atlanta open got some great players playing in the back you can play where the pros play and folks the pros are playing.

Outrageously good today so we'll see some more of that when we come back welcome back Dave Fleming with Morgan Evans seven a piece here in game number one of the women's singles final oh and you hate to call timeout and then hit a return that wasn't a massive serve into the net.

No indeed she really took a good swing at that one oh that she thought she might have missed and the pressure that Annalee puts on you just have to be a little more fine sometimes and you don't need to be oh wow and this is three points and 15 seconds.

Might be a record it's not the record she's trying to keep no Four Points in 20 seconds in the mild-mannered Catherine parento was ready to swat that ball into a different Peach Tree something here and uh found her composure and uh you can see Emily Waters there.

Getting encouragement from her women's doubles partner didn't get the result they wanted today at five but uh she's got to put that away she loves singles she told us it's her favorite we'll be back with game two here at the AquaTech Atlanta open all right we are back in Catherine prento just went on tilt a.

Little bit there at the end a little bit yes dotted well but Annalee Waters turned up the heat oh wow that's beautiful right there just so accurate with that down the line backhand and parental you see her anticipating the classical backhand because she's also deadly accurate with that one.

And a lob sales uh well I'm gonna say slightly well it went very high okay a high shot it was a high shot yeah high and how that's a lot oh okay so that's an important rally for Catherine parento there who.

Played some obscene we talked about her Court coverage was unbelievable you know come back to that oh that's too good and uh a well-deserved fist pump yeah she's got it rally back to that one not just got it though she got two hands on it yeah and that gives you the firm grip that.

You need to just push that into the open court but with a little bit of a roll I should love to get that one back because she guessed right by not moving I mean she knew she had a 50 50 point at that stage oh my what a pickup by parento and this is becoming a a runaway freight train.

Very quickly and timeout is called yeah the paddle's down and uh since seven all it has gone all annalize way the pressure she puts on can be significant and there you see a lot of high fives and confidence boosting words from the waters Camp so parental a champion a.

Triple Crown winner coming in here can she find her a game and push back I expect that she will we'll be right he's gonna need to all right everybody welcome back it is game two of the women's singles final Annalee Waters has won eight points in a row the last four of Game one and the first four of game number two.

Nice job by parento of making the forehand work but the key shot there was a tremendous return set up the point for her perfectly yeah it's go time no doubt about it cannot wait any longer to find at least second or third gear nice work that is textbook singles that's why there's a little two in.

Parentheses next to her name she is a force oh that's beautiful got away with one on the ball before that she guessed backhand but parento kept the pass in the middle of the Court no oh that is ridiculous on the Run that in a great return yeah what more do I need to do.

And that is not a fun thing to be thinking when you're in the middle of a match I'm surprised the paddle is still with us uh she hit a phenomenal return and got exactly what she needed out of it and tried for a little Inside Out winner into the Open Court caught the net that's friends.

And she played three great points in a row yeah she only won one of them yeah I didn't actually get a point so no she won one of the three rallies the turn was wide after a deep serve just to be clear if you wonder what happened there the serve was out oh my just that's in that's in oh great play from parental uh.

That's what it takes to win a rally right there yeah I mean we were privileged to watch the the women's and the men's doubles yeah this is living up to it no doubt oh that time she guessed incorrectly and then I thought well maybe this tape is gonna just flip it up there and she can.

Track it down but uh not the case she's just um and uh things are definitely heating up 87 degrees here Yes you heard that right folks 87 degrees was 77 earlier so the singles players who run around more are playing in a hotter.

Situation they're more than up for it yes they uh typically the the fittest out of all the pickleball players it is a prerequisite when you put your name into the draw or your day and singles will be short oh oh and that's the second threatened paddle I don't.

Know she's probably got a spin yeah eight two so Anna Lee Waters looking very good here in singles she got tied up at seven and then on a roll so no matter where you're watching us from the east coast to the West Coast from Frisco Texas to San Francisco.

California we appreciate you watching the PPA tour we'll be right back I mean wow the angle she found on the ball down the middle there that's what you're supposed to do deep in the middle takes angles away take the angles away simple geometry yeah the bull speech he went with as well at that angle yes was uh very.

Impressive to say the least so deservedly the number one seed it seems and deservedly a head nine too nice close by parento there saw the opening and did not let that ball bounce singles players if you can get a ball out of the air go get it all right backs up against the wall 2-9 and just can't put a little run together.

After that one mid game one where she got ahead since that point in time it has been all ow oh that's beautiful and she sold down the line I think she did she had the body over there and then parental moved just a little side step and uh that was more than enough to open up a chasm.

Of space Cross Court uh the chasm of the lead is also a game point I know no uh parento misses the return and it's gonna take all of her reserves to Rally here for a game three Anna Lee Waters walking confidently over to her seat she is up 11 7 11-2 we'll be back Catherine parento is a.

Proud Champion can she find a gear that she hasn't got to yet there she is deep in thought we'll be right back welcome back everybody the Anna Lee onslaught Is For Real and Catherine parento looking for answers and that is a great start to game three.

Yeah effort is a great place to start and she put in a lot of work there got to self the surf back yes already has a gold medal from earlier today in mixed so uh has that in her pocket would love to add to that but it has a lot of work to do to get there and that's a beautiful forehand roll.

Just inside the sideline yeah it started with a wonderful surf she really shot fired a gunshot there and I think that needs to be the idea the rest of the day forehand uh betrays her to rallies in a row here the ability to even consider from that body position to hit a backhand down the.

Line yeah it's a not something you should try at huh no you will hurt this will be out of place in your back it is the advantage of the two-hander though because you can let the ball travel and use your left hand to guide that down the line so you absolutely have that you give up a little reach but.

You definitely give yourself time and Power wow that appeared to be a good leave but I don't think she's called it out nope uh no one got a good look at that so if you're not sure it's in fair enough another ball on the line and Natalie Waters is really targeting.

That down the line she's looking for the forehand of parental and uh parento is returning the favor I don't want to see the two-hander beating me so yeah I mean it's not like the girls think they're gonna hit a winner on that side but they're trying to open up the backhand side on that next play you know the way these two play they.

Sort of reverse the general teachings which are chip the ball to a backhand and come to the net against these two wizards with that a two-handed backhand that is not where you want the ball to end up and see a timeout happening quickly so here goes parento finding that next effort level.

And uh takes a seat see Leia Jansen chatting with her there a little smile so giving her Entourage something this morning so we'll take a quick break ourselves Catherine parento has found herself and got a lead here in game number three all right welcome back everybody Catherine parento has forced a time out.

From Annalee Waters and that is the best sign of all other than the scoreboard oh my can't believe that because Anna Lee Waters had sent a message saying I am heading to the right side of this establishment oh that's amazing if that's died in and it looks like it did.

Dipping onto the outside edge of the line and that is why to return to the backhand that is that is two inches inside the line unbelievable the shop making ability of both these ladies but that was uncanny a little wide there and quickly 4-4 this is what happened.

At seven a piece in the first game just all of a sudden annalize started hitting shots you can't even believe and I assure you that Catherine was on the other side of the Court there and unfortunately for her made a mistake Morgan did not fill in for a point yeah the mistake would have come quicker okay so there was consideration of the.

Paddle she's not even gonna bother putting the paddle down uh she's gonna continue on and uh no she's just getting to the towel so what again in a Flash five straight points parento heads to her side Anna Lee.

Talking to Mom there and feeling very good about where she's at looking for her first gold medal of the weekend we'll be right back okay Anna Lee Five Points in a row Catherine calls time out and we talk about seeing the Finish Line Morgan I think she can see it she's got to get there though.

It's a nice stick volley there good timeout oh look at that I take it there they're very similar in terms of power and speed however the accuracy that Annalee Waters possesses especially off that backhand side is uh it's a real Difference Maker at this point.

So that good looking forehand we saw did uh garnish a point oh and I missed return and it's 8-4 here and Catherine tried to go back behind Annalee Waters there unable to do it on the run and we are two points away from an Annalee Waters victory.

Nice dipping two-hander from parenta there four nine that's good pressure yeah so this is uh the type of Point construction that brought Catherine to a lead Midway through game one where annalize stayed back and Catherine as you just said Morgan applied the pressure.

Lovely I think that's a little extra shoulder turn froze Anna Lee she wasn't willing to go for the backhand side but she definitely didn't make a decision no and left a nice curling forehand down the line available parental oh that's too good really really good because the parento.

Ball there was struck very well yeah it's one of the benefits of not feeling like you have to crowd the kitchen light she had more than enough space a bit of a buffer zone for a cross step that got her to that forehand pretty quickly nice one it's just such a patient ball there just I'm way ahead in the point if.

You get this back it's over if you don't fine indeed she waited for Parental to commit to what she thought was going to happen down the backhand side and here's Championship point and that sails deep and Anna Lee Waters continues to be the dominant force in women's singles in the game of pickleball just a.

Tremendous effort again from her that was a clinic let's be honest uh Catherine parental is obviously one of the best second best uh certainly top three in the game I think Leia Jensen is in that conversation as well uh but in the end Annalee Waters proves once again why she is the best so it's Annalee Waters.

Taking her first gold medal of this tournament Catherine parento had another great tournament a gold medal earlier today and mixed takes the silver and women's singles and we'll be right back we'll have Hannah John's on court talking to Anna Lee Waters we'll be right back all right everybody I am back with our women's.

Singles Champion give it up everybody Anna Lee Waters Anna Lee you've played Catherine before really pushed her what was the difference today yeah well I played Catherine many times and it's always a super close match and I love playing her but I took the last six weeks off really focusing on my body and I'm not wearing.

An e-brace right now which I'm very happy about um also I was really working on my speed and I think today maybe that surprised her that I was getting to a couple more balls than I usually do but I've just been putting in a lot of hard work I honestly didn't even think I do that great in singles at this tournament but.

I'm super happy with my result didn't think she'd do that great everybody and here she is so uh hey how did you get yourself together here obviously the women's doubles match was epic for all of us for the fans that watched it didn't go your way you played tremendous how were you able to just put that aside.

And come out here and really play a dominant match in singles yeah yeah anger and came out on the singles court and I was like okay you know I'm gonna play my heart out I'm gonna get to everything and I just super motivated to get this one and I'm super happy with how I played and I can't wait to keep playing things.

All right so let's bring Connor Pardo in the commissioner of the PPA tour and uh we got lots of things to hold here so Connor could take it away here Anna Lee on behalf of the PPA um acrotech Lifetime and the Atlanta open as a whole we present you here with the singles Championship congratulations.

We love seeing you here let's give a round of applause everybody so Anna Lee Waters takes a gold medal home today takes a silver medal home today and women's doubles congrats to her folks coming up next on this court we've got Rafa we've got fed I'm not.

Kidding we'll be right back thank you thank you come on.
